Have you ever entered a wellness center and wanted to try the sauna?
If the answer is yes, you have surely noticed elements that make this environment unique.
We are not talking about special spaces or strange objects. We are talking about the rules of conduct to follow.
Today we deal with sauna etiquette.
SPACES IN SAUNA
The sauna is a public place, where we share an intimate and confined space with strangers. It is therefore essential to respect the space of others, maintaining the right distance from your neighbor, which is about 30 cm.
Avoid occupying the entire bench or lying down. The correct position is sitting, with legs closed and trying not to lean your back against the upper bench. It is forbidden to stare at other people or move inappropriately.
TONE OF VOICE
The second rule to imprint in your mind is: be silent!
The sauna's main objective is to calm and relax the mind. Therefore, loud conversations are prohibited.
A Finnish proverb advises behaving in the sauna as in church, focusing on your own breathing and heartbeat, obtaining the maximum benefit from silence.
HYGIENE
Before entering the sauna, remove perfumes and odors from your body with a lukewarm shower, so as to prepare your skin and open your pores to receive the heat and facilitate body relaxation.
The shower is also important once you leave the sauna, to eliminate excess sweat from your skin before immersing yourself in other pools. Post-sauna cooling with a cold shower allows blood circulation to react, rebalance the body and restore regular heart rate.
Never, under any circumstances, remove sweat with your hands, as you risk dripping on your sauna neighbor and it would not be a pleasant experience.
CLOTHING
Both clothes and slippers must remain outside the sauna, for hygienic and health reasons. Plastic and synthetic clothing at high temperatures release toxic fumes, negating all the benefits of a session; furthermore, clothing prevents the sauna's heat from penetrating through the skin
Some saunas are only accessible without clothing, wearing only a towel: it serves as a pareo inside the cabin, for the more modest, to cover intimate parts; it is used inside the sauna to cover the benches from your sweat, preserving the wood of the benches and making them easily usable for subsequent guests.
```Remember to remove metal and technological or mechanical objects to avoid micro burns in the sauna and damage to your belongings.
FOOD
Avoid, already from the day before your sauna visit, the consumption of very spicy foods, garlic and onion. In the sauna all odors are expelled through sweating via the skin and could become unpleasant for other guests.
To replenish the body from the loss of fluids and salts, it is recommended to drink herbal teas and water at room temperature, and to not lose the beneficial and regenerating benefit of the sauna, avoid alcoholic beverages.
THINK ONLY OF YOURSELF
If you want your experience to be one of total relaxation and pleasure, take your time, leave the frenetic daily rhythms behind, listen to your body, breathe and relax!
